Will there be serious side effects that might cause a health problem or disease such as cancer?

The first thing to keep in mind is that hair transplants are a kind of surgery. There is some degree of risk associated with it, much like any other kind of surgery.
The primary risk with hair transplant surgery are infection and hemorrhage. Hemorrhage is common as a side effect of the grafting process. Another potential side effect is hair thinning which is a temporary side effect. This kind of hair loss is called shedding and is commonly known as shock loss.
Itching is another potential side effect of hair transplants, as are scarring and cysts. Finally, bleeding and swelling are potential side effects too. These cosmetic procedures are generally considered safe and rarely cause side effects.
